Mary Catherine Birsen, 70, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on November 10, 2021. Known as Cathy to family and friends, she spent her entire life in the Toledo area and was an avid member of Saint Clement Catholic Parish.
A graduate of Notre Dame Academy in 1969, she obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Mary Manse college of Toledo Ohio. After graduation, Cathy went on to teach chemistry and science at Central Catholic High School and Science at Fremont St. Joes, while working at Lasalle's department store in Toledo. She then worked as a microbiology tech at Mercy Hospital for several years. Cathy later obtained a Master's Degree in Human Resource Management from Siena Heights University of Adrian, MI. and spent several years in Human Resource Management at Reed Vision of Monroe MI.
Cathy was a skilled seamstress and created costumes for many of the spring musicals with Toledo Council of Catholic Young Adults (TCCYA). She also enjoyed ballroom dancing for several years, winning awards and creating all of her own dance costumes as well as for other dancers. Cathy was an avid and voracious reader, enjoyed movies, spending time each year with friends at the family cottage and loved all things family.
Cathy is survived by sister Susan Birsen of St. Joseph, MI, and brothers Michael (Kim) Birsen of Charlotte, MI and Thomas Birsen of Toledo Ohio; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Homan.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rosemary A. and Raymond L. and brother Mark R., all of Toledo.

Family and friends may gather at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 10:00 am, at the funeral home.
Covid-19 guidelines regarding wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
