Mary Ellen (Kelly) Bald
June 23, 1934 — August 12, 2019
Mary Ellen Kelly Bald, second of nine children, was born to the union of the late Wilbur Anderson Kelly and Betty Lorena Tyler Kelly on June 23, 1934 in Peewee Valley, Kentucky.
Mary was proceeded in death by five of her siblings. Two sisters, Irene Lumpkins and Ethel Kelly. Three brothers, Jackie, Jimmy and Arthur Kelly.
Mary attended the Pewee Valley Grade School and the Lincoln Institute High School in Oldham and Shelby County, Kentucky.
Mary was married to the late Frank Bald. She was employed in many different jobs, providing human service to others.
At an early age, Mary Ellen confessed her faith in Christ and was an active youth member at the Pilgrim Baptist Church (Kentucky). Later Mary joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church (Kentucky) during her young adult years. Mary relocated to Toledo, Ohio in the mid-sixties and joined The Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where she remained an active member until her illness.
Mary was quite the comedian and very strong willed. She had a heart for giving, sharing and helping others in need. She had an outreach ministry of her own as well. For many years during the Fall Harvest season, Mary would cook chili and have Open House for all her neighbors, family, friends and residents of the Alpha Towers where she resided for many years prior to her illness. Mary always desired those she loved to enjoy a meal when in her presence.
On Monday, August 12, 2019 at 1:34 pm she departed this life and went home to see her Lord and Savior.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories eight children: Steven J. Moore (Johna), Sondra C. (Larry) Talbert, Byron N. Hughes (Dee) of Sacramento CA, Carol Y. Lumpkins of Louisville KY, Cecilia Franklin of Louisville KY, Willie "Craig" Kelly, Regina E. (Hubert) Martin and Frank "EddieBoy" Bald. Twelve grandchildren: Rodney N. Curry Sr., Sandra D. Anderson (Diggy), Misha J. Green, Brande Micheau, Romie C. Bald, Hitashi J. Moore, Jovan P. Bald, Cory E. Bald, Byron N. Hughes III, Whitney Franklin, Bruce Franklin, Brea Franklin and a number of great/great great grandchildren. Three sisters: Jessie Kelly Watkins, Wilma Kelly (Isham) Spencer and Betty Kelly (William) Mayfield along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary Ellen extends the family legacy of love, courage, faith, strength and unity that has sustained us over the years.
Friends will be received Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. to Noon at The Indiana Ave. Missionary Baptist Church, 640 Indiana Avenue, Toledo, OH 43604. With her Home Going Service starting at Noon with Rev. Dr. John E. Roberts presiding.
