Mary Lynn Armstrong-Taylor, affectionately known as Ms. Lynn, age 89, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at her daughter's home surrounded by loving family. She was born on December 16, 1930 to Sam and Charlie (Washburn) Howard in Toledo. Lynn was educated through the Toledo Public School system and attended the Northwest Bible College and Toledo Bible College. She united with St. Mark Baptist Church under the late Rev. I.J. Johnson and later Harvestime Holiness Church under the late Elder James Rowlett Jr. Later in life she reunited with St. Mark Baptist Church.
She was employed by the Dr. Francis Canelli family and later served as Group Home Administrator at Zeigler Homes and Dallas Rehabilitation Homes, where she retired. Lynn was also a talented seamstress. She was an avid reader, biblical scholar and diehard Detroit Pistons fan.
Lynn's love and passion for gospel music afforded her the opportunity to sing with the Emerald Gospel Singers. She also served as the choir director at St. Mark Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. Lynn would often wake her children up late at night to sing harmonies for choir arrangements.
Lynn is survived by her loving children, Linda Armstrong-Boles, Carl (Henrietta) Armstrong and Meredith Capps; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Cynthia Wright; beloved as sons, Dennis Pernell and Michael Dent; special cousin, Joyce Neal; sisters-in-law, Gladys Blanton and Mary Armstrong; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 2 husbands; daughters, Karen Branch-McNeal and Rhonda Spearman; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will be private for family at St. Mark Baptist Church. Interment will be private at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
