Mary Anne Alberts

January 20, 1961 — August 27, 2024

Toledo, Ohio

Mary Anne Johnson Alberts, age 63, of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 27, 2024.

Mary Anne was proud to say she was a native conch, born in Key West, Florida at St Mary's naval hospital to Joseph Clyde Barker Johnson and Mary Ann Nagel Johnson. Mary Anne grew up in South Toledo in the cross gates neighborhood. She attended St. Pats and graduated from Bowsher High School Class of 1979.

Friday the 13th, June of 1980, she met the love of her life in what can only be described as a whirlwind romance that was truly love at first sight. 3 months later on September 20, she married that love of her life, Jeff Alberts. They spent an amazing 44 years together. From always spending time with family, to motorcycle rides, summer weekends at Vineyard Lake, sailing on Lake Erie, Friday night dates to shoot pool at Miss Cue North with her darling and most recently, traveling with her sweetheart in their camper. For the last 4 years, Mary Anne and Jeff were never apart, as they enjoyed retirement, they celebrated each other constantly never leaving ones side without a kiss and genuine "I love you" Their union overcame all the odds!!!

Mary Anne was a fiercely devoted mother to her two Sons Ian (Nikki Sparks) and Shane (Gina Alberts) through their youth she instilled one value above all "protect and keep your joy, never let anyone steal it" Mary Anne would protect the underdog at all costs. She was an accomplished artist, but her humbleness would have you believe otherwise. Her paintings, sculptures, Halloween pumpkins, and other creations were gifted to those she valued and treasured by those who received them.

Mary Anne's happiest moment was when her son, Shane, promoted her to Nana with the birth of Caleb, and Ian just recently gave her that title with the birth of Anthony. She adopted Nikki's son, Casey, as her grandson on a first meeting on Halloween of 2018.

Mary Anne was a true punk rocker and an aficionado of the underground music scene in its earliest days, with a love of bands like the Ramones, the Cure and the Clash; She loved telling the story of her Johnny Thunders concert and that of the Ramones.

Mary Anne was the definition of a tour de force; the epitome of cool, who had a profound effect on all those she encountered. This is not her full story by a long shot, but lives on in all the stories and memories we all carry of her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Mary Ann and Joseph Johnson and brother, Joseph Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory, her husband and soulmate, Jeff; sons, Ian (Nikki) and Shane (Gina); grandsons, Caleb, Anthony and Casey and her sister, Ellie Picowitz of New Hampshire.
