Martha J. Keener, age 81, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by her family. She was born August 8th, 1930 to Emery and Bertha (Parker) Spangler, Sr. in Ottawa, Ohio. Martha was a graduate of Springfield High School and worked as a cook for Toledo Public Schools and Trinity Lutheran School for several years. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida and was an avid bowler. Martha also loved to attend the Toledo Mud Hens games in Toledo during the summer and watch the fireworks display at the end of the games. She will be remembered for her love of card playing, whether it was with her lifelong card club members or with her family. She will forever be remembered as the "official scorekeeper for "Oh Sh#t".
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by first husband of 33 years, Jim Cunningham, Sr., brother, Emery Spangler, Jr. and her son, Neal Keener. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Herbert Keener; children, Jim "Buster" (Hilda) Cunningham, Jr., Michael (Angie) Cunningham, Vicki (Todd) Miners, Jerry Keener and Debbie Martin; brother, Larry Spangler; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
The family will receive guests Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
