Martha Engle

Martha Engle, age 85, of Holland, Ohio passed away August 31, 2023. Martha was born in Delta, Ohio on December 11, 1937, to the late Henry and Theresa (Derck) DeCoster.

Martha was a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and loved preparing meals for her family. In earlier years, she loved taking long Sunday drives with her beloved husband where they enjoyed exploring new places and returning to old favorites. Martha was a lover of wildlife. She took great pleasure in feeding all the critters and birds that visited her backyard day or night. Martha also had a life-long passion for art and was an artist herself. She loved to paint and draw and was always doodling. Her doodles were everywhere—sketch pads, notepads, calendars, shopping lists, or any random sheet of paper. Martha also loved the challenge of crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels, watching Jeopardy!, and watching the news and discussing current events.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and her family adored her immensely.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, John (Deb) Engle, Deborah Sleesman, Jim (Tammy Hoyt) Engle, Jeff (Teresa) Engle, and Tracy Engle; grandchildren, Joshua Engle, Keith Sleesman, Brian Sleesman, Jason Engle, and Justin Engle; and great-granddaughter, Ella Sleesman.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, John O. Engle; son, Robert F. DeCoster; and brother, Richard DeCoster.

The family will receive guests Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Road, Toledo, Ohio 43617. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Martha will be laid to rest at Springfield Township Cemetery.
