Martha Jo (Hammond) Burk, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio, left this earth peacefully on December 7, 2024, at Spring Meadows Nursing Home, just one day shy of her 81st birthday. Martha was born December 8, 1943, in Toledo, to the late George and Ruth Hammond.
Martha was a proud graduate of Waite High School, where she made her mark as a writer for the high school newspaper. Her passion for writing continued throughout her life, reflecting her vibrant personality and love for creative expression.
Martha enjoyed listening to Elvis and she cherished the companionship of her dogs, who brought her great comfort and happiness. Her home was a testament to her nurturing spirit, filled with love and the warmth of her furry friends. In addition to her personal passions, Martha was deeply committed to her community and the missions of Westside Community Church. Her role as president of A Glow Ministries showcased her compassionate nature and dedication to serving others. She inspired many through her work, always striving to uplift those in need.
Martha will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and unwavering spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and service that will continue to resonate within her community and beyond. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be truly missed by those who knew her. This isn’t goodbye, but we will see you again!
Those left to forever cherish her memory are her loving sons, Daniel Burk and George (Diana) Burk; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Morris.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Burk Jr., whom she married on February 26, 1966.
Family and friends may visit at Westside Community Church, 6045 W Bancroft St, Toledo, Ohio 43615, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral at 11:15 am. A private family burial will be held at Swanton (Centerville) Cemetery, where Martha will be laid to rest next to William.
