Mark A. McCoy, Sr., age 63, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1961, in Toledo to Roosevelt and Carol (Thomas) McCoy. A devoted family man and a pillar of his community, Mark’s zest for life and unwavering dedication to his passions will be deeply missed.
A man of deep faith, Mark was actively involved in his church, where he found solace and purpose. His love for sports, particularly basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers, was unwavering. He made his mark as an athlete at Libby High School, where he played basketball and served as a sports manager alongside his twin brother from 1976 to 1979. Mark graduated in 1979 as a proud Libby Cowboy.
Mark’s work ethic was unmatched. He began his professional journey as a bag boy at Kroger in 1975, showcasing his commitment to hard work from an early age. Together with his twin, he founded a lawn service called “M & K McCoy,” laying the groundwork for a life dedicated to entrepreneurship. Mark later attended trade school, becoming a skilled heavy-duty off-road equipment operator, and eventually transitioned into carpentry and labor through the building trades.
In his pursuit of excellence, he established his own business, "Mark McCoy and Son," which he proudly described as “a single source of responsibility.” Mark was often referred to as a black "Leonardo da Vinci," possessing an extraordinary array of skills that allowed him to construct homes from the ground up.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt McCoy, and his beloved brother, Gerald McCoy. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children: Markita A. McCoy, Mark A. McCoy, Jr., Matthew, and Genesis; his mother, Carol Ann McCoy; his treasured granddaughter, My'Lyse Blackshear; and his siblings, Keith (Daphne) McCoy, Sr., Cassandra "Sandy" Lynn (David) Holt, and Daryll McCoy.
Mark A. McCoy, Sr. was a man of many talents, a loving father, and a steadfast friend. His legacy of hard work, love for his family, and commitment to his community will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Visitation services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614. Funeral service to begin at 1:00 p.m. on immediately following the vistiation.
