Marjorie L. Check, age 90, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Monday, July 18, 2005 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She is on her final trip to heaven where her son Eugene Enis and grandson Louis Turner, Jr. are waiting for her there. She will have a reunion with her husband George, sister Betty Kodak, brother Edwin Whitting, nephews David and Albert Kodak, and her mother and father, Lily and Irish Whitting. Marjorie was in the 1st class at Devilbiss High School. She was a candy maker and cake decorator, retiring from Balduf Bakeries. Marjorie was involved in making the largest solid chocolate rabbit, which was 6 ft. tall, and shipped, to the White House for the annual Easter egg hunt. During WWII she answered the calling and stopped making candy and started making turbines for jet engines. She was a past president of the Glass City Grandmothers Club. Marjorie received an award for never missing a voting day in 50 years! She invented the famous "green bean casserole," when she entered and won 1st prize, in a cooking contest over 56 years ago.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter: Barbara (Gerald) Carlton; sister: Gloria (William) Rupert; Grandsons: Mark (Lori) Martin, Jade (Jennifer) Montrie, Dustin (Kristen) Montrie, Jason (Tammy) Carlton; Great-granddaughters: Lindsay (Matt) Swan, Kody Turner Schimmel, Chandler Montrie, Allison Montrie; Great-grandsons: Adam Martin, Seth Martin, Blake Martin, Lane Montrie, Julian Carlton, Jacob Carlton; Great Great-grandson: Brandon Turner Reed; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, July 21, 2005 from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
