Mario V. Avila, age 64, of Toledo, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 19th, 2011 at The University of Toledo Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 20th, 1946 to Saturnino and Consuelo (Viera) Avila in Maumee, Ohio. Mario was a U.S. Army Veteran serving his country proudly in Vietnam. He retired from Chrysler after 28 years and was a devoted member of Cornerstone Church. Mario loved music, especially Mexican Music and he was a longtime member of the band "Laredo", playing his accordion and singing. In his younger years Mario enjoyed long distance cycling. He spent many weekends riding in several Bike-to-the-bay events. Most importantly, Mario was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and cherished the time spent with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ernestina "Tina" Guardiola. Mario is survived by his wife, Ofelia (Gonzalez) Avila; children, Mario Jr. (Christina), Cristela (Darian) and Julian (Irma) Avila; grandchildren, Ishon, Alaysia, Katarina, Cesar, Marisa and Mario Armand; brothers, Frank (Rose), Mike (Stephanie), Tony and Bobby Avila; sisters, Juanita Aldaco and Jessica (Albert) Blanco.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-4 & 6-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Church, 1520 Reynolds Rd. with viewing one hour prior. Officiating will be Pastor David Banks. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
