Marilyn Hall Packer

March 7, 1931 — October 30, 2016

Marilyn Hall Packer, aged 85, passed away surrounded in the love of family, on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania where she had been a resident for nearly 3 years. A lifelong Toledoan, she was born to Orville and Hazel Parke Hall on March 7, 1931. She graduated from Whitmer High School and worked in customer service for a number of businesses and financial institutions. She married James Alfred Packer in 1954, and they had two daughters, Diane and Marcia. Widowed in 1974, she returned to work in banking, including United Savings and Loan Association and Peoples' Savings and Loan, finally retiring from GDM Securities in 1995. After retirement, she provided day care in her home, deriving great joy from the children she tended.

Marilyn was a woman of deep faith and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her social and charitable life included square dancing and her activities in The Order of the Eastern Star (an auxiliary to the Freemasons). She was a devoted wife and mother and was a very loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, Andrew and Kelsey Lang. Her life was enriched by her two rescued canine companions, Max and Sprinkles (a/k/a Mollie). A long-time and passionate follower of politics, CNN and MSNBC news programs filled her days.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Diane (Lawrence) Friedman and Marcia (Edward) Lang of Austin, Texas and her grandchildren Andrew (Andrea) Lang and Kelsey Lang, and her sister Patricia (Palmer) Hornsby, her niece Debbie Gibson and her nephews David and Dean Blanchard. Marilyn and her family were grateful for the excellent and loving care she received from the wonderful staff at Kingston Care Center whose compassion, humor, and dedication to their work greatly enhanced her quality of life.

Marilyn will be buried next to her husband, James, in a private graveside ceremony on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive guests at the home of Diane and Lawrence Friedman on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, tributes can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Wildwood Preserve Metropark, the Toledo Humane Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
