Marilyn Jean (Birkenkamp) Huebner

July 19, 1926 — February 14, 2025

Sylvania, Ohio

Marilyn Jean (Birkenkamp) Huebner, 98, passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day 2025, with her children at her side and under the loving care of the staff of Kingston Residence of Sylvania and Ohio Living Hospice. Marilyn was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and aunt. She enjoyed a long and beautiful life full of mercy, grace, and the blessings of a loving family, good friends, and good health.

Born on July 19, 1926 at St. Vincent’s Hospital to Herman H., Sr. and Marion (Hartman) Birkenkamp, Marilyn was the oldest of 3 children. She was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School (1944) and Wittenberg University (B.S. Science and Psychology, 1948) where she also earned a varsity letter for multiple sports. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority (Tau Gamma Chapter) and Beta Beta Beta (Xi Chapter). Marilyn had a beautiful voice and was featured on the radio in college and sang for many church weddings.

Following college, Marilyn clerked for Toledo Scale and was a service representative for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. In later years she served as the church secretary at Glenwood Lutheran Church and Director of Social Services at St. Luke’s Hospital.

In 1974, Marilyn married Quentin R. Huebner and they eventually retired to Traverse City, MI. For many years she enjoyed Quent’s barbershop activities, time at the lake with family, and regaling folks with her stories and the jokes we have missed hearing these last few years. She had a great sense of humor and especially loved telling the story of when her grandmother was the Woodlawn Cemetery bookkeeper and the family lived in one of the houses there.

Marilyn is survived by her children Dr. Albert (Chris) Snyder (Kathy) and Dr. Rachel (Snyder) Schumann; step-children Sue Temme, Cathy Terrill, and Sandra Nunn; 12 grandchildren including Commander Kailey Snyder, USN, Ross (Angela) Snyder, and Bennett (Mallory) Snyder; Sydney (Anthony) Orr; Morgan Schumann (Taylor Gruhl); 6 great-grandchildren including Evelyn Snyder and Elliott Orr; her niece and 5 nephews, and close friends, Bill and Lucille Westerman.

Marilyn was predeceased by husbands Albert Snyder and Quentin R. Huebner; her parents; her sister Joanne Finucan; and her brother Herman (Hank) Birkenkamp, Jr.

Visitation will be at 11am with committal services at noon on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home (4150 W. Laskey Road, Toledo OH); burial to follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family gives special thanks to Kerri (Ohio Living) and Miriam, Seema, and the teams of nurses, aides, and caregivers (Kingston Care Center of Sylvania) for the incredible care they have shown to Marilyn and her family over the last several years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests tributes to Glenwood Lutheran Church (2545 Monroe Street, Toledo 43620) or to Ohio Living Foundation (9200 Worthington Road, Suite 300, Westerville, OH 43082)
