Marie Margaret Wiener

Marie Margaret Wiener (known lovingly as Mo Margarita), age 76, of Maumee, OH passed away April 2, 2025 at Northside Atlanta Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 26, 1948 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Joseph and Anna (Verostick) Schanen. Marie was a 1966 graduate of Grand Rapids, Minnesota High School. She then went onto Hibbing Junior College where she received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1968 and then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy College in Detroit, Michigan in 1987. She was employed as a Case Manager for Medical Mutual of Ohio for 26 years.

Marie always had a love for the outdoors, camping and canoeing. While canoeing wasn’t necessarily her favorite activity, she embraced it with her trademark commitment of doing everything alongside her best friend and soulmate, Ron. In 1983, they moved to Toledo, Ohio, where they formed lifelong friendships with so many, sharing countless adventures and memories spanning over 40 years. Marie’s pride and joy were her grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Marie had an undeniable love for Florida, especially the sunshine, beaches, the pool and everything flamingo themed. Her home and wardrobe were often peppered with pinks, palm prints and cheerful reminders of her favorite tropical birds.

Marie had a fiery spirit, a quick wit, a heart full of love and she lit up every room she entered. Her generosity of spirit and gift for making friends never went unnoticed—she never met a stranger and always embraced new faces with open arms. She had a deep love for her family and friends and she will forever be remembered as a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering love.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, John Schanen. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Ronald Wiener; daughters, Kathryn Walker and Patricia Wiener (Angela Niemann); grandchildren, Brandon Owens (Lilli Jacob-Owens), Nicole Owens, and Jack Walker; siblings, Joseph Schanen, Patrick Schanen, Celia Schanen, and Anna Schanen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Marie leaves behind a legacy of sass, strength, laughter and love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Memorial service will be celebrated at a later date as her husband is fulfilling his promise, by taking her to Florida.
