Marie (Fretti) Schuchmann, age 81, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Tiffin, Ohio March 29th, 1928 to Benjamin and Ruby (Basso) Fretti. Marie was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Class of 1946, where she was awarded The Bishop's Cross her Junior year and elected Class Secretary of her Senior year. She then went on to attend Mary Grove College in Detroit, Michigan. Marie was a sales associate with Lion Store for more than 25 years, working at the Westgate and the former Southwyck locations. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother cherishing the time she was able to spend with her family. Marie loved spending time with her children as they grew up in the Gesu community, spending many years as a "room mother". She was an avid gardener, proud of her many beautiful rose bushes in her yard. She will be remembered by her children for her elegance and style, always dressing and acting the "proper lady". Marie showed her children by example the values of respect, loyalty, love and humor. Marie, who was referred to lovingly as "Mama Mia", will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, John J. Fretti. She is survived by her children, Benjamin Schuchmann; Mary Frances (Virgil) Wise; Theresa Marie (Hank) Natoli of Phoenix, AZ and John (Kristen) Schuchmann, Jr.; grandchildren, Gina Marie (Ike) Leeper; Paul (Jessi) Wise; Sara (Dan) Wise Turner; Philip Wise; Benjamin Wise; Alyssa Marie Natoli; John Philip Natoli and Joel and Grant Schuchmann; great grandchildren, Caleb and Asher Wise; Lily and Olive Turner and Mia Theresa Leeper; John J. Schuchmann, Sr. (her "Schuchie"); good friend and sister-in-law, Dorothy Roby of Valdosta, GA and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The Schuchmann Family would like to thank the entire staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the exceptional care and support they provided for Marie.
