Marie Eleanor Gozdowski, age 95, of Sylvania, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, at Flower Hospital. She was born February 10, 1913 the oldest of five children, to William and Hattie (Sass) Werynski in Toledo, Ohio. Marie was a 1931 graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was employed with the Toledo Board of Education in the Business Office for 15 years retiring in the early 1970's. Marie always felt very fortunate that during the time her husband, Raymond, served in the U.S. Navy, stationed with the Fleet Post Office, she was able to travel with him from New York City to San Francisco. She was a longtime member of St. Adalbert Church and more recently active at St. Joseph Church Sylvania. Marie was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed cooking, baking of all kinds, reading mystery novels and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 68 years, Raymond F. Gozdowski; sister, Helen Burcewicz and brothers, Frank, John and Paul Werynski. Marie is survived by her loving son, Edward Gozdowski; sisters-in-law, Alice Feltman and Henrietta Okulski and several dear nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests Monday from 4-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Scripture Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church Sylvania, 5373 S. Main St. Officiating will be Fr. Tony Vera. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
