Marian Rose Reed, 96 died from pneumonia on May 5, 2024 at the Genacoss Lutheran Nursing Home at Wolf Creek. She was a resident there for over four years. A feisty woman, Marian was bedridden for over two years and fought her death until the end.
Born in Toledo on June 6, 1928 to Dr. Reynold Tank and Mary (Goetz) Tank. She was the oldest of 11 children. Marian grew up on the East Side and attended Good Shepherd, Central Catholic HS her freshman year, and then attended St. Mary's, an all-girl boarding school.
Marian married the late William "Bill" Kerr in 1949 and they raised six children. They owned the "Lair Lounge" in the 60's and 70's. It was a well-know watering hole in South Toledo that recently closed. Marian was a homemaker, an avid reader, an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a scout leader, but most of all, a Mom.
Marian married the late Lloyd "Bud" Reed in 1978. In 1983, she graduated as an LPN and unbelievablely had two benign brain tumors removed several months later. She and Lloyd later moved and established their roots in Frostproof, Florida. They literally built their own geodesic dome home and it became a landmark in the town. Marian was intelligent and unstoppable. She worked as an LPN at the now Advent Health Hospital then continued her nursing as an RN, graduating 3rd in her class from Florida Community College in 1996. Marian retired at the age of 75.
Her oldest son Steve, died in 1996 in a fall from a cliff near Tularosa, New Mexico. In 1997, Marian and her five children made a spiritual and very physical hike to the site where he died to spread his ashes.
Surviving are her children: Karen (David) Mundwiler, Lynn Granata, Judy (George) Hansen, Bartley Kerr and Victoria (Michael) Mioduszewski; step-daughter: Susan Smith; grandchildren: Dr. Matthew Mundwiler, Michael Mundwiler, Nicole Krueger, Anthony Hansen (Megan), Sam Granata, Sara Granata (Chris), Melissa (Jared) Heidelbrink and Kylie Hansen; great grandchildren: Caitlyn Mundwiler, Selena Krueger, Lucas Mundwiler, Aria Granata, twins Luke and Luna Heidelbrink, Mario Granata and Gideon Hansen; sisters: Teresa Boylson, Sally Corwin and Donna Bussey; brothers: Paul, Michael (Jean) and Theodore Tank and many loving nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her son Stephen, brothers: Richard, David, Dr. Thomas and Raymond Tank.
The family will receive guests on Friday July 19, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Memorial Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A big thank you to the staff of Hospice of NW Ohio for over two years of loving care. They were such a comfort to our beautiful mother. Also, a special thank you to the staff of Genacross - Wolf Creek for their special care and Pastor Greg Olsen who continually visited with blessings and religious conversations.
