Maria Vargas

Maria Vargas 82, of Holland, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, with loving family surrounding her at UTMC. She was born on April 26, 1942, in Cotulla, Texas.

Maria married Carman Vargas on January 6, 1962, in Toledo and from this union came the birth of five children. Maria took pride in creating a loving home for her husband and children. She worked various jobs through the years including in the Visitor’s Bureau for ODOT. This was perfect for her because no matter where she was, she made everyone feel welcomed, part of her family, and special.

Maria was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who called her Grandma, Granny, and Nana. She loved showering them with gifts at Christmas and their birthdays. Maria loved music and dancing to everything from Conjunto to Pitbull. Her grandchildren especially loved being on the dance floor with her.

Maria leaves behind daughters, Mary Jane (Jim) Frederick, Theresa, Carmen (Mark) Teachout and Toni (John) Brubaker; sons Tony (Shelly), Joseph; brother Ernesto; sisters; Dora, Consuelo, Elvia and Olga; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and many others who called her “Grandma”, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her loving husband, a brother and a sister.

Family and friends will be received at Our Lady of Lordes, 6149 Hill Ave, Toledo, Ohio on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM with a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Saint Richards Cemetery, Swanton, Ohio. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, South Chapel. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations in Maria’s name may be made to the American Heart Association
