Maria Dawn Smith

Maria Dawn Smith (née Tarjanyi), aged 66, passed away on August 7, 2024, in Toledo, Ohio, where she was born on July 4, 1958. 

She graduated in 1976 from Woodward High School and worked as a waitress at the Officers’ Club on Eglin Air Force Base Florida, as well as Mancy’s Steakhouse in Toledo, where her beautiful smile and sense of humor charmed her patrons. Maria was a beloved member of the Toledo community and known for her vibrant, fun-loving personality. She was a dedicated and loving mother whose hobbies included tending to her large plant collection, and loving on her rescue kitties Kiki and Tigger. She enjoyed listening to live music, spending time with her friends and loved ones, journaling, and coloring to relax. 

Those left to forever cherish her memory are her son, Bryan (Zachery) Smith-Workman; brother, James Tarjanyi; sister, Linda (Eric) Wagener; and her loving companion, Jason Sherwood. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leocadia and Stephen Tarjanyi, as well as her adored pets Katie, Kiki, and Tigger. 

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, at Newcomer Northwest Toledo Chapel at 4150 West Laskey Road. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm with the service to follow. 

Contributions in Maria’s memory may be made to the Toledo Animal Rescue, reflecting her love for animals.
