Maria Ernestina (Luna) Gilbert
July 24, 1942 - January 5, 2025
Maria Ernestina (Luna) Gilbert, age, 82, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025.
Ernie was born July 24th 1942 in Mexicali, Mexico to Maria Angela and Anastacio Perez Luna.
Ernie graduated from Coachella High School in Indio, California in 1959.
On January 20, 1967 she married Joseph Gilbert and created a beautiful family, having 5 children.
Ernie retired from Schumaker Loop and Kendrick, LLP after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Acts of service was Ernestina's primary love language. Her commitment to her church, Little Flower Catholic Church, as she assumed the role of Altar Rosary and her volunteer work tutoring at risk elementary children throughout the Toledo Public School District brought her great joy and fulfillment. Acts of service benefited not only her community but also her country. By setting the tone, leading by example and providing an unmatched support system, several of her children and grandchildren felt compelled to display acts of service, selflessly by joining the US military. Ernie's pride and patriotism was epic.
Family and friends meant everything to Ernie. There was no occasion too small that wasn't deemed worthy of a party.
Ernie loved to cook especially authentic Mexican cuisine. She was proud of her heritage and felt the importance of continuing traditions with her children and grandchildren.
Ernestina is survived by her husband, Joseph Gilbert; children, Alicia (Gilbert) McElheney, Joseph Gilbert, Melissa Gilbert, Anastacio (Erin) Gilbert; grandchildren, Morgan McElheney, Maria Gilbert, Kaylee VanWormer, Trenton McClure, Joseph Smith, James McQuilkin, William Smith, Sarah Gilbert and Anastacio Pryce Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Amelia Saba, Matteo Smith and Avery Hoffman.
