Marcus L. Toney

Mr. Marcus Lee Toney, 63, of Toledo, OH passed away unexpectedly August 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. Marcus was born on November 22, 1960, in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of Janet Toney – Cotton and the late Jasper Toney. He was a 1979 graduate of Muskegon Catholic Central High School where he was active in football, basketball and track. Marcus was an All- State running back for the Crusaders during his senior year. He then attended Michigan State University, where he was a member of the Michigan State Spartans football team. Marcus received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 1984.

After graduating college, Marcus resided in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was employed as a Deputy Sheriff for Jefferson Parish for 12 years. Marcus worked for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, formerly known as Daimler Chrysler, for 25 years, before retiring in June 2023.

He leaves to cherish memories: his devoted mother, Janet Toney – Cotton of Sylvania, OH; brothers, Michael (Cheri) Toney of Sylvania, OH, Christopher (Sherri) Toney of Frisco, TX and Dennis Dew of Muskegon, MI; nephews, Dennis Chapman, De’Angelo (Natasha) Howard Toney, Christopher B. Toney, Christopher M. Toney; and nieces, Denisha Pace, Talor (Scott) Stansley, Tazsa Toney, Stefannie Toney, Morgan Toney and Beanna Dawson. He was preceded in death by grandmothers, Eleanor Davis of Muskegon, MI, Emily Haver of Cleveland, OH, Viola Toney of Muskegon, MI and Mae Francis White of Beloit, WI; brother, Matthew Toney of Muskegon, MI; sister, Angela Toney of Muskegon, MI; nephew, W.T. Howard Toney Jr. and both maternal and paternal grandfathers.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Marcus on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, at The Premier – 4480 Heathersdown Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614 from 1pm to 4pm.
