Marcia Sue McAvoy-Wilks, age 62, of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 8, 2012. She was born on September 20, 1949 to Dr. John R. McAvoy and Kathleen A. (Sutter) McAvoy. Marcia was the third of seven children. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, where she focused on developing her artistic ability. Marcia's meticulous nature and her art led to her life's work as a civil engineer technician at the Lucas County Engineer's Office retiring in 2001. In retirement, Marcia also enjoyed working as a gallery guard at the Toledo Museum of Art and as a poll worker for the Lucas County Board of Elections. Her family and friends will remember her quick wit, command of trivia and sincere compassion.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Marcia will be deeply missed by her sisters, Mary Pat Keller (Tina Brown), Maureen Shamas, Molly McGregor, Michelle Lever and Claudia (John) Day; brother, John R. (Sherry) McAvoy, Jr. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews as a caring and thoughtful Aunt; spouse, Duane Wilks; step-daughters, Tonya Bain, Jayme Wilks and Kristyn Wilks-Case; and a host of many other family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 12 – 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
