Madora Ann (Waite) Powless, 89, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away on January 8, 2017 at the Manor of Perrysburg. She was the daughter of Karl and Margaret Waite. She graduated from Libbey High School where she played the trumpet in the band. She married the love of her life Gene Powless in 1946. They were married for 68 years. More than anything she loved her family. She was happiest when she spent time with her grandchildren.
She worked as a waitress for the Commodore and Secor Hotels and the Sylvania Country Club. She worked in retail at the Lion Store and finished her career in the marking room at Dillards.
She was a member of Dendarah Court #10 and she was Directress of the Oriental Band. Gene and Madora "Maddie" played the trumpet in the Maumee Community Band and Manatee Community Band in Florida. She passed on her love of music to her children.
Madora is survived by her children, Jon (Marie) and Sally Powless; grandchildren, Sean Powless and Heather (Jim) Stover; great grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle Stover and Stephanie (Jeff) Shifflett; great great children, Jacob and Christopher Shifflett and sister Mildred Streib. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Powless; parents, Karl and Margaret Waite and sisters, Maryjane Haberland, Marcia Haney and Edna Parr.
The family will receive guests on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
