Madelyn J. Bates

Ms. Madelyn Joyce Bates departed the Earthly life July 22, 2019 at the age of 69. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 4, 1949 to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin and Mattie Lyons, both preceded her in death.
Madelyn attended Scott High School. She was a daycare provider for 30 plus years, while being a loving mother. Madelyn accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. Stephen's A.M.E. Church. Madelyn also enjoyed creative arts, decorating and spending time with her family. She was united in holy matrimony with Donald H. Bates, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2014.

Madelyn leaves to mourn her passing and rejoice in celebrating her home going her sons, Donald (Shannon) Bates, Ronald Bates, and Daniel (Tracy) Bates; daughter, Donna Bates; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Miriam) Mathews; sister, Patricia Alexander; dear friend, Ms. Joanne James; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Chester Jones, Franklin Lyons and James D. Lyons; sisters, Gwendolyn J. Green and Angelene Lyons; granddaughter, Alexa Bates.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
