Mack Smith, Jr., age 85, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 30, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 30, 1926 to Mack Sr. and Malinda (Shelly) Smith in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mack was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving our country proudly during WWII. He became a graduate of Woodward High School on Veteran's day, November 10, 2010, receiving his diploma; which he was very proud of. Mack was employed with Toledo Public Schools as a building engineer for 25 years and then with MCO for many years until retiring. He was a member of The Glassman Drum and Bugle Corps and a 34 degree Free Mason. Mack was a fabulous woodmaker and had a green thumb for growing roses. He enjoyed taking road trips, going on cruises and doing word puzzles, he felt they kept his mind active. Mack loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Smith; his second wife, Pauline Smiddy-Smith; daughter, Debra Long; grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Smith; sister, Jewel Matney; and brothers, James and Prince Smith. Mack is survived by his loving children, Donald (Pat), David (Becky), Diane and Dennis (Andrea) Smith; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Mackelene (Marvin) Smith; and special friends, Holley and Jay.
The family will receive guests on Monday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
