Luke W. Despoth

August 29, 2001 — July 28, 2017

Luke William Despoth, age 15, of Holland, Ohio passed away July 28, 2017. He was born August 29, 2001 in Sylvania, Ohio to Mark and Rhonda (Cox) Despoth.

Luke was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish and was going into his Sophomore year at St. John's Jesuit High School. He was truly living up to the SJJ Creed for being "A Man for Others". He was the sweetest young man who always carried light and positivity in his heart. A gentle, caring and giving person who showed these qualities through his immense smile and his love of life.

Luke especially had a close bond with his older brothers Mark & Matt. He looked up to them from the time he could talk and wanted to be like each of them which he did in every way. Luke loved to compete with his brothers and always made it fun. He had a sense of humor and laugh that made everyone smile. Mark and Matt have been excellent role models!

Luke found his love in SJJ Crew and strived to be his best for the team. The team & coaches embraced him and challenged him to get better and stronger. He and his Dad lifted weights all summer to prepare for the Crew Fall Season. During these workouts, he often talked to his Dad about his excitement as a Varsity team member who would be mentoring incoming Freshmen and teaching them as the Varsity had taught him. Luke truly loved his Crew family, team, coaches and parents!

Luke is survived by his parents, Mark and Rhonda; brothers, Matthew (Veronica) Despoth and Mark (Emily) Despoth; nephew, James Despoth; grandparents, Marjorie Cox and Richard Despoth, Sr.; many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Luke was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyle Cox and Janet Despoth. Luke was a shining light to his family and showed his love to each one of them in his own special way. He had the emotional ability to connect with individuals in their own way, which made every interaction special and unique.

The family will receive guests Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). The family will receive guests Friday, August 4, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo.

Memorial contributions are to be made out to Linda Cannaley, P.O. Box 1040, Holland, OH 43528 who will be managing the Luke Despoth Memorial Fund on behalf of the family.

A special prayer that Luke made up himself when he was little to say with his Mom every night before going to sleep was "no bad dreams, only good dreams, sweet dreams, I love you" … as Luke sleeps in his eternal rest, Mom and Dad know God will let perpetual light shine upon him.
