Lucille R. Weaver

May 5, 1925 — October 15, 2024

Petersburg, MI

Lucille Ruth (Henry) Weaver, known to family and friends as Lucy, 99 years of age, of Petersburg, MI, went home to be with Jesus peacefully on October 15, 2024. She passed away from natural causes in her daughter and son-in-law’s home, where she had resided for the last few years.

Lucy was born on May 5, 1925, to Floyd and Loretta (Gensler) Henry, in Toledo, Ohio. After Lucy graduated from Dundee High School in Dundee, MI, she went on to attend Olivette College in Indiana for a year. College was a short-lived experience as she met and married John William Weaver in September of 1943, at age 18 when John was home on furlough from the United States Army. They were married in a double wedding ceremony with their best friends, Lowell and Laura Addy, in Louisiana. John and Lucy went on to have four children and resided most of their married life in Temperance, MI. They were married 60 years before John’s passing in 2004.

Lucy enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child was in grade school. Then, she became certified as an ear and eye technician and worked for the Monroe County Health Department until her retirement in 1984.

After retirement, John and Lucy enjoyed many years in Arkansas with Lowell and Laura Addy but returned home in 1995 to spend more time with their family. Lucy worked for JoAnn Fabrics for many years after their return home to satisfy her love for anything sewing or crafting. After John’s passing in 2004, Lucy became very active at the Francis Family YMCA, where she made lasting relationships and experienced so much joy and fulfillment. It would be at the YMCA where she would conquer her fear of water by going down the water slide. She also participated in drumming classes and water aerobics. She always spoke of her time there with such fondness. It was the highlight of her day for years. Thank you to all who loved her and cared for her during that season of her life.

Lucy had an IMMENSE love for her family and friends and was always giving of herself to make someone else’s life better. She knew no strangers and made an impression wherever she went. She had a tremendous sense of humor and brought all around her lots of laughter.

Lucy was also an excellent seamstress, knitter, crocheter and honestly handled anything she put her hands to with excellence. She was also very industrious and could often be found painting, wallpapering, refinishing and reupholstering furniture, and she even did some household wiring. Lucy was a phenomenal cook and always happily took requests from family members to make their favorites.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Loretta Henry; her husband, John W. Weaver; her daughter, Gayle L. Weaver; her brother, Leslie Henry; and her sisters, Vernilda Henry, Marie Brown, and Juanita Dindoffer.

Left to cherish Lucy’s memory are her children, Dianne (Doug) Taylor, John (Karen) Weaver, and LuAnn (Pete) Campbell; and grandchildren, Mike (Ticia) Keane, Shelley (Jeff) Schriner, Callie (Scottie) Klostermeier, Ryan (Didar) Weaver, Jaron (Annie) Weaver, Jason (Audra) Campbell, Aaron (Katie) Campbell, Peter (Bethany) Campbell, and Tiffany (Kevin) Koger. She also leaves behind 34 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Lucy also had many wonderful in-laws by her grandchildren, as well as nieces, including Cheri (Dick) Case and Vickie (Bob) Stokes, and many friends that will miss her dearly.

An open house in celebration of the wonderful life Lucy lived will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the home of Lucy’s granddaughter, 7760 Jeffs Rd., Ottawa Lake, MI 49267, from noon to 3 p.m.
