Lowell G. "Slim" Eilert, age 78, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 26, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 22, 1933 to Carl and Helen (Henschen) in Toledo. Lowell was a graduate of Libbey High School in 1951. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Libbey Engineering Society. After graduation he was offered a job as an apprentice carpenter. Lowell joined the Carpenters Local Union 1138 and was a member for over 55 years. Lowell met his wife at a Lutheran Young Adult meeting and after a year and a half they were married at Bethel Lutheran Church. He also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and was a member and a trustee at Holy Cross Lutheran Church for many years. Lowell loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Lowell is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Eilert, of almost 51 years; sons, Larry (Julie) and Steven Eilert; grandchildren, Mary Rose and Cody Eilert; and some cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in New Belleville Ridge Joint Cemetery, Perrysburg Twp.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to make monetary donations are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor's choice.
