Louise A. Johnson

September 11, 1935 — March 13, 2019

Louise A Johnson, born September 11, 1935 to Paul and Isabel Davidson. She passed away March 13, 2019 with her loving family at her side. Louise grew up in Toledo and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1953. She married David Fleck, Sr. and had 2 children David "Mike" and Lorna "Lori" Fleck. In 1974 she married Francis "Bud" Johnson, and in 1976 they moved to a farm house in Grand Rapids Ohio. She graduated from BGSU in 1985 with a dual degree in fashion merchandising and interior design.

Louise and Francis decided to buy a historic building in downtown Grand Rapids and start a retail business. They renovated the building to include 4 apartments and the downstairs was retail space. The business was named The Brickyard and was unique as it offered craft vendors to rent spaces to sell their wares. Louise was also an avid seamstress and operated sewing, clothing, and alteration services and taught quilting classes at the store. She also had a name for her clothing line called LoJo Creations and the label for her clothes was registered with the State of Ohio. Today the historic plaque for the building Johnsons Brickyard is still present today.

Louise and Francis throughout all the years also had a love for square and round dancing and frequently told of the health benefits, mentally and physically of dancing. They became licensed round and square dance callers and instructors at BGSU and other colleges. They were active in many round and square-dancing clubs such as Magic Squares, Maple City Squares, Fountain City Squares, and Turkey Foot Trotters, and ran their own dancing groups Grand Squares and Dance-A-Lots. Louise designed rebuilding their home that included a dance hall so they could teach and entertain in their home for many years.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Isabel; sister, Elizabeth; and brother, Paul. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Francis "Bud"; son, David (Pam) Fleck, and daughter, Lorna (Dan) Koppel; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Nancy) Davidson; and many other family members and dear friends.
