Lorene Hicks, age 83, of Delta, formally of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Swanton Valley Care and Rehab after a long battle with dementia. She was born on April 19, 1929 to Benjamin and Alice Blankenship in Toledo and was raised in Capuchin, Tennessee and married Martin Hicks August 11, 1945. They moved to Toledo and she worked at Toledo Scale while she and Martin raised three daughters, Betty, Linda, and Kathie. Lorene took early retirement from Toledo Scale after her daughter and son-in-law passed away in order to raise 3 of their grandchildren. Lorene was a member of Eastern Star and Old Fashion Missionary Baptist Church. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; daughters, Betty Crapsey and Linda Duffey; sister, Irene Dobson; and brothers, Arnold and Lloyd Blankenship. Lorene is survived by her loving daughter, Kathie (Roy) Pickett; grandchildren, Bob (Donna) Crapsey, Rob (Brenda) Duffey, Patti Munsey, Kelly (Carl) Osbourn, Marty (Tammy) Collum, Tammy (Damon) Keller, Shawnda Collum, and Kim Callihan;; 16 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter on the way; and brothers, Bill (Bobbie) and Ron (Cheryl) Blankenship.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
