Loren A. "Skip" Gard, age 84, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, where he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 3, 1928 to Alva and Alma (Ream) Gard in Toledo. Skip proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he began his trucking career in the military. He was a lifelong over-the-road trucker, having driven for various trucking companies over the years. In his spare time, Skip loved golfing at Bayview Retiree Golf Course, where he also volunteered. He and his late wife, Dolores A. "Dee" Gard spent many years in Green Valley, Arizona where they hiked the Grand Canyon. Skip developed an interest in silversmithing and square dancing while he lived in Arizona.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Alva A. "Andy" Gard and his girlfriend, Marie Williams; brother-in-law, Richard A. (Cathy) Dzienny; niece, Cyndi Hughes and nephew, Brian Dzienny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Dee Gard and step-daughter, Shelly.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) – 2:00 p.m. Memorial Services will begin in the funeral home on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
