Lois Mae Thompson

October 25, 1925 — March 19, 2022

Lois Mae Thompson, born October 7, 1925 in Swanton Ohio, died of natural causes on March 19, 2022 in the comfort of the Hospice of Northwest Ohio facility surrounded by her adoring family; she was 96 years young and lived a very full life.

Lois attended St. Agnes School followed by St. Ursula Academy and was an active member of the Pi Kappa Tau sorority, learning early on the importance of an active social life and surrounding yourself with a strong collective circle. She was introduced to her husband, Brent, by a friend and they married on August 22, 1946 and had 2 daughters, Diane & Nancy. Throughout her life, Lois loved meeting new people and keeping herself busy; she worked at F.W. Woolworth, the Secor & Commodore Hotels, and the DeVilbiss Company, eventually retiring from St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in 1983 after 18 years to spend more time with her husband, Brent, and their close friends and family. She and Brent were also lifetime members of Christ the King Parish.

To say that Lois had a certain spunk would definitely be an understatement and to know her was to love her. Lois remained a curious, inquisitive, grateful, faith-based people-person who never missed an opportunity to meet new people and entertain family and friends throughout her long, healthy life. Those closest to her cherish many fond memories and traditions, recalling signature mannerisms and vocabulary all her own. She thoroughly enjoyed the music of Frank Sinatra, bowling, hosting family and friends for numerous pool parties on Harvest Lane, indulging in one of her favorite dishes of spaghetti bolognaise, Rudy's hotdogs, or scallops, warshing the entree down with a rusty nail or gin martini, followed by just a sliver of dessert…everything in moderation, walking at the Franklin Park Mall, playing bingo and cards…she was an expert card shark to the very end who was known to speculate while building her winning hands, poker face intact, singing, friendship, friendship…da, da, dat, da friendship as she won round after round, hosting the family every New Year's Day for pork and sauerkraut while praying for continued good fortune, volunteering at the Sylvania Senior Center, solving word puzzles, and traveling.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Bea and Gene Tracewell, as well as her husband of 50 years Brent Thompson, truly becoming the matriarch of the Thompson family. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and their families, Diane (Dennis) Krohn and Nancy (John) Salsbury; grandchildren, Douglas, Deborah, David, Michael (Stefani), Scott (Lena), and Brian (Kurstyn); and great-grandchildren, Izabella, Emily, Naomi, Eva, Liam, Finn, Sawyer and one on the way.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo 43623 with Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Inurnment will be private at Calvary Cemetery.

In her own words, Lois drafted the following: …Time to say goodbye! Take a moment and say a prayer to toast her long life and the memories shared.
