Lois L. Giddens, age 87, passed away Thursday, August 11th, 2011 at Ridgewood Manor Care, Maumee. She was born August 1st, 1924 to Otis and Bessie (Jones) Horton in Lapeer, Michigan. Lois graduated from Lapeer High School in 1943 and married Howard C. Taylor in 1944 in Lapeer where they resided in for many years. Lois was a bus driver for Lapeer Schools, as well as being employed at AC Spark Plug during World War II. She had the privilege of working on the line that manufactured machine guns that were shipped overseas to U.S. troops. During her employment with AC Spark Plug, Lois also assisted with the manufacturing of the automatic pilot systems used in military aircraft during the war.
Lois and Howard and their two sons moved to Port Huron, Michigan, where she continued driving bus for Port Huron Schools, until their final move to Sylvania, Ohio. It was shortly after Howard Taylor passed away in 1987, during the construction of their family home in nearby Holland, Ohio, leaving her to oversee the completion of the house without her loving husband.
Lois was known by others for her kindness and her sense of humor and most of all her love for the Lord. She led both of her sons to the knowledge of Jesus Christ and was a shining testimony to all who knew her. Lois was also known for being a wonderful cook. Anyone who had the privilege of eating some of "Grandma Horton's" homemade bread, which was a closely guarded recipe, went away with a smile on their face.
Lois had a great sense of humor and a constant smile of contentment and happiness and a reputation as a "Godly Woman". Because of her wonderful personality, Lois eventually met a widower named Claxton "Jack" Giddens and they happily married in 1994 and oh, what a wonderful pair they made. While Lois traveled to Florida and the Bahamas by plane with her first husband Howard, who was a pilot of small aircraft, she was able to vacation by car with Jack this time around. They drove from Georgia to California and all points in between.
In 2005 Lois suffered a slip and fall accident sustaining a head injury and has not been well for the last few years. We have a special joy in our hearts knowing that now our Mother is finally "Home" and without suffering.
She will be greatly missed by her two beloved sons, Thomas C. (Vickie) Taylor of Old Fort, NC and Tim (Vickie) Taylor of Swanton, OH; grandchildren, Christine, Laura, Robert, Toviyah and Aharon; great grandchildren, Alex, Dylan, Eli, Summer and Anakin; sister, Betty Jean Greising of Millington, Mi and brother, R. Paul (Dorothy) Horton of Lapeer, MI.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard C. Taylor; her second husband, Claxton "Jack" Giddens; sister, Dorothy Saxton and brothers, Bernard "Mike" Horton and O. Theron Horton.
