Lloyd H. Sweebe, age 67, of Temperance, MI, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 2, 2017 with his loving family and two best friends by his side at the University of Michigan Hospital after a long courageous battle. He was born in Toledo, Ohio November 22, 1949 to Howard and Norma Sweebe and grew up in West Toledo attending Hopewell Elementary School and Whitmer High School. In 1966 he met the love of his life, Rita Ann Genung at a dance at the Catholic Club. They were married November 24, 1967 and have been inseparable ever since. Lloyd was a very hard worker and entered the work force at Toledo Scale in 1967 until they relocated in 1977. Due to a large recession at that time, he had to learn a new trade; which he did from his little brother Dale and together they started D & L drywall and successfully ran that until 1982. He then was offered a very good job with the Floyd P. Bucher and Sons Construction Company where he proudly became a member of the Painters Local 7 and worked there until retiring in 2011. Lloyd was a lifelong member and past President of The Great Northern Sportsman Club and member of Cedar Creek Church where he loved to attend. He enjoyed exercising, bowling, golfing, fishing, trap shooting, canoeing, and mushroom hunting. Lloyd was an avid sports fan, and loved watching and attending Tigers baseball, Buckeyes and Lions football games, where he was a season ticket holder and enjoyed tailgating too. Most of all, Lloyd loved vacationing and spending time with his family and friends, whom he loved very much.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and friend, Russell Genung; sister, Gloria Hill; and brother, Dale Sweebe. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rita; mother-in-law, Doris Genung; son, Marc (Denise) Sweebe; grandchildren, Adrienne and Max; brother, Butch Sweebe; sisters, Marian (Jake) Roberts and Darlene Kiker; and lots of nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Cherry Street Mission.
