Lizzie Lee Saar, age 85, of Toledo, Ohio peacefully passed away with her family holding her hands and hugging her on June 26, 2024. She was born on June 27, 1939 in Speedwell, TN to Casper and Stella Mae (Goodman) Bean. As a teenager Lizzie ventured to the Toledo area all on her own to stay with family, finish high school, and to work. She met and fell in love with her ex-husband and the father of her daughters, the late David Saar. Lizzie graduated from Scott High School. She retired from Oracle Packaging, where she worked as an inspector for more than 30 years.
Lizzie was extremely hardworking, she always kept herself busy. She was also loyal, honest, amazing, strong, silly, and spunky; she was a sweet and sassy spitfire with a heart of gold. Lizzie enjoyed spending time with her family above all else, whether it was camping together, traveling to visit family, or simply spending quality time at home with her babies. She also enjoyed the outdoors and loved watching the birds in her yard. Lizzie enjoyed playing Skip-Bo and Uno, and was known to play by her own rules, much like she lived her life by her own rules.
In addition to her parents, Lizzie was preceded in death by her siblings, Alice, Alberta, Mary, Buddy, and Earl Ray, and her brother-in-law, Gary Crouch. Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Tami (Fred) Turner and Grace Oehlers; grandchildren, Bradley Oehlers (Lizzie’s sidekick), Dawn Oehlers, Destanie Nimigean, Linzie (Kayl) Talboo, and Chelsea (Josh) Turner Parker; great-grandchildren, Alexei, Ryland, Haizley, Brooks, and Riley; siblings, Geraldine, Norma, Jeanie, and TJ; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd, Toledo, where a Memorial Service will immediately follow.
Those wishing to donate in Lizzie’s memory are asked to consider The Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Lizzie’s family at Aspen Grove, the outpouring of love for Lizzie meant so much. The family also thanks the staff at Heartland Hospice for their love and care, as well as those who cared for her sidekick allowing her daughters to be present with her.
