Owner of " Lil's Carryout", Lillian Bowland, 72, passed away on March 3rd, 2011 at Hospice with her husband, Les and best friend, Ina, by her side.
Lillian and Les enjoyed their life helping others at their store, "Lil's Carryout" on South Erie Street. The store was famous for over 30 years for its pickles, fresh bologna and especially "penny candy". Lil always had a huge Fourth of July fireworks display and for Halloween she gave out snacks and took pictures of the kids in their costumes, which she displayed in the store. For Christmas Les always played Santa Claus and they displayed those pictures in the store as well before giving them to the kids. She always gave credit to families to help them get by until they received their checks. Lil was always lending a helping hand to everyone who entered her store and always celebrated the holidays with the neighborhood kids. She loved going to the casinos and playing cards with family and friends. She won a trip to Las Vegas from the National Examiner Magazine which she and Les enjoyed very much.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eleanor Neubert; brothers, Karl, Teddy, Victor.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Les; three brothers; niece, Cheryl; great-nephew, George; sister-in-law, Virginia . Also Lil and Les's adopted family, the Kokenspargers: Richard and Ina and their sons, Richie (Corine) and Robbie (Nicole); grandchildren, Noah, Katie, Aiden, Keefer, Juddy.
The family will receive guests from 11-2:00 p.m., Monday with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Richie Kokensparger officiating.
