Lila I. Szparka

Lila I. Szparka, age 93, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Flower Hospital. She was the daughter of Harley and Bertha (Schiffer) Bates, born June 20, 1929 in Holland, Ohio. Lila attended Springfield High School, graduating in 1947. She worked for J.C. Penneys, Southland for 25 years. Lila was also a member of the ladies Auxillary American Legion Post 553 for many years.

Lila spent many summers at Clark Lake where she enjoyed fishing, boating and water skiing. She was also an avid gardener and loved spending time tending her gardens where she grew lavish flowers and all types of vegetables that she would can and preserve.

In addition to her parents, Lila was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer "Sparky" Szparka; sister, Shirley Hall and brother, Leland Bates. Lila is survived by her dear sons, John (Lynne) and Stanley (Cathy) Szparka; grandchildren, Timothy (Kelli), Douglas (Amanda) and Gregory Szparka, Kelly (Eric) Snyder, Katie Szparka and Matthew (Shelley) Szparka; 15 great grandchildren, Brooke, Lindsey, Jenna, Victoria, Adalyn, Caroline, Josh, Lauren, Shane, Emily, Zachary, Luke, Kensley, Jack and Lillian and brother, Edward (Linda) Bates.

The family will receive guests Monday, February 13, 2023 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Road (419-392-9500), where funeral services will begin at 12:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Lila's great-granddaughter, Lindsey, savings fund to help secure her future.
