Columbus

Lex Alexander Massai Ashby, age 53, a beloved son and cherished father, brother and friend, was born on December 5, 1971 in Toledo to Efron "Steve" and Marcella (Stewart) Ashby. He departed from this world on April 2, 2025 at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.

Lex graduated from Macomber Whitney High School in 1989. Sometime after high school he made the decision to move to Columbus to live his best life. While in Columbus he worked for several years at City Barbecue where he developed many friendships with his peers and customers.

Lex was a man of profound kindness and unwavering spirit. He approached life with curiosity and an earnest desire to forge connections. His infectious laughter and warm smile lit up gatherings, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to share a moment with him. Lex possessed a rare quality, an ability to listen with empathy that made everyone feel valued and appreciated. His commitment to uplifting others will be remembered as one of the many facets of his character that defined him.

As we reflect on Lex's life, it is important to celebrate not only the great joy he brought to family and friends, but also the passions that fueled his days. He was an ardent learner, embracing various interests that often led to spirited discussions and debates. Whether it was movies, music, or the challenges of every day life, Lex's encouragement and enthusiasm was contagious, inspiring those around him to delve deeper and explore brighter horizons.

Though Lex has departed this earthly realm, his essence remains intertwined with the fabric of our lives. We will find solace in the memory of his laughter, the kindness in his words, and the love he so freely shared with everyone. In our hearts, he will forever live on, a shining spirit who reminded us of the beauty and fragility of life.

In addition to his father, Lex was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Efron "Steve" Ashby; mother, Marcella Ashby and brother, Richard Ashby, Sr. He is survived by his children, Alexia (Fern) Ashby, Justin Perryman and Jordan Perryman; grandson, Fernando Colvin; sister, Katina Ashby; girlfriend, Catrina Roberts; niece, Bria Bostic; nephews, Richard Ashby, Jr. and Kyri Ashby and a host of extended family and dear friends.
