Lewis F. "Frank" Ayers, age 86 of Toledo passed away Sunday, October 16th, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. He was born on January 2nd, 1925 to Anthony and Laura (Marsh) Ayers in Henrico County, Virginia. Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post #606, the American Legion and Westwood Baptist Church. He married Cecile (Henderson) Ayers on February 16th, 1946 in Toledo and together they shared 64 wonderful years. Frank was an avid golfer and for many years he volunteered in the pro shop at Bay View Golf Course where he previously served on the Board of Directors. For 10 years he had been the Park Manager of Catawba Point Association where he also had a summer home. His family spent many summers on Catawba Island making many memories. Frank will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, granddad and his family will dearly miss him and his sense of humor.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Danny (Joyce) Ayers, Pam Sullivan, Nancy (Steve) Haynes and Donny (Misty) Ayers; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amy, Jason, Steven, Brooke, Rick, Steve, Tracy, John, Caitlin and James; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Brandon, Delaney, Shyler, Shaylin and Shevy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile, 12 brothers and sisters and son-in-law, Terry Sullivan.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park .
The family would like to specially thank Brandy and Tara for the love and care that they provided to Frank and also to Flower Hospital and Toledo Hospital ICU nurses.
