Lester D. Rowell, age 77, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in his home. He was born on December 6, 1935 to Halbert and Mable (Waddell) Rowell in New Orleans, Mississippi. Lester was a merchant marine in the late 1950's and early 1960's. His love of being on the water was further evident when he decided to build shrimp boats and become a shrimper along the Gulf coast. Lester worked as a millwright and a carpenter for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, York Rite and the Shriners. Lester was an avid old car enthusiast and enjoyed golfing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Cole; granddaughter, Deanna Tucker; and 4 brothers. Lester is survived by his loving wife, Karine Weil-Rowell; children, Lester, Jr. (Lynn), Barbara (Alan), Andrew (Debbie) and Sally (Paul); step-children, Cheryl, Jerry (Debbie), Eric (Shirley) and Tricia (Mike); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine and Judy (C.L.); and brothers, Donald and Bobby (Nancy).
There will be no visitation for Lester, per his wishes. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Gulfport, Mississippi. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Toledo (419-381-1900) assisted the family with professional services.
