Leonard J. Gedert, age 79, of Toledo, passed away May 10, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 16, 1934 in Toledo to Aloysius and Helen (Laux) Gedert. He was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Leonard served his country in the US Army stationed in Korea. He was employed with the Chrysler Corp. as a Millwright for 37 years. Leonard was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter and enjoyed being outdoors. Leonard was a dedicated caregiver always putting the needs of others before his own.
Leonard is survived by his siblings, Eugene Gedert (Montgomery, MI), Louis Gedert, Joann Schwind, Roy Gedert (St. Peters, MO) and Marilyn Stachowiak; sister-in-law, Eileen Gedert; neighbor and best friend, Brian Kazmierczak, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and Daniel Gedert.
The family will receive guests, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 9:15 am in the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Of Lourdes, 6135 Hill Ave at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
