Rev. Leonard Glen Raney, age 91, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, May 5th, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 24th, 1919 to Mark and Minnie Pearl (Wiley) Raney in Lame Deer, Montana. Leonard was employed with Surface Combustion for 30 years before retiring. He was an independent Pentecostal Minister. Leonard was an avid beekeeper and participated in the Peace Corp in Guatemala teaching beekeeping. He was also a parachute firefighter over Montana, Idaho, Oregon and parts of Washington. Throughout his lifetime he donated over 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Leonard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde and Allen Raney, sisters, Azel Raney and Margaret Thompson, sister-in-law, Dorothy Raney and brother-in-law, John Thompson. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Juanita (Cypert) Raney; son, Glenn (Lana) Raney; daughters, Juanita Fae (David) Fisher and Pearl Raney; brother, Mark "Pete" Raney; grandchildren, Rachel Wesley, Ressie (Jimmy) Mowrey, Christine Fisher and Melissa (Eric) Goyette; great-grandchildren, Todd Jr., Alexandrea, Tyler K, Kaylee and Gunner James; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday from 4 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, 2324 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo, with visitation from 10 – 11:00 a.m. at church. Interment will follow at Springfield Township Cemetery.
