Leonard A. "Lenny" Gosik, age 97, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Friday, July 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 25, 1918 to Anthony and Constance Gosik in Toledo. Lenny was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. serving his country in WWII. He loved baseball even playing when he was in the Army for a team called the Buckeyes. After coming home from the Army, Lenny played baseball with many sports taverns. He especially loved the Detroit Tigers. Lenny was a lifetime member of the American Legion Argonne Post 545, where he was formally the captain on the dartball team. He had a love of music, politics and history and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Gosik; sisters, Dorothy Beilski and Lucille Jackowski. Lenny is survived by his loving daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Hall and Linda (David Kozlowski) Gosik; grandchildren, Tami (Joe) Matthews and Michael (Casey) Leiter; great-grandchildren, Nicole, A.J., Kaylynn and Zack; and great-great-grandchildren, Zofia, Anthony and Helena; and canine companions, Ryder and Kyndle.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Toledo with Military honors being performed by the Lucas County Burial Corp.
Those wishing to make memorial donations in honor of Leonard are asked to consider the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corps.
