Leola A. Merrill

Leola A. Merrill, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Franciscan Care Center with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 28, 1940 to Lloyd Higgins and Leola M. (Spitler) Ras in Toledo. Leola was a graduate of Woodward High School. She married Raymond C. Merrill on June 29, 1957 in Toledo. She was an avid and devoted fan of the Detroit Tiger's, Toledo Mudhens and Cleveland Brown's, playing bingo at the nursing home, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Her and her husband enjoyed traveling in their younger years. Above everything she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who poured everything into her family.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Raymond; children, Leola Wetzel, Raymond E. Merrill, Patty (Keith) Williams and Ronald Merrill; grandchildren, Joseph Wetzel, Nikki Wetzel and Jeffrey Merrill and nine grandchildren and many precious great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kathleen Merrill.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel (419-473-0300). Her Funeral Service will begin in the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.

The family would like to specially thank Dr. Cherian Verghese and everyone at the Eleanor Dana Cancer Center for all of their love and caring support. Also the family wishes a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Franciscan Care Center for giving Leola such loving and dedicated care for the past year.
