Leo A. Knaggs, age 89, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away peacefully Monday, March 7th, 2011 at his home. He was born August 14th, 1921 to Raymond and Edna (Smith) Knaggs in Sylvania, Ohio. Leo was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 37th Division 148th Infantry. During his service Leo was injured and was awarded a Purple Heart. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the military, Leo returned home and married Lorna Kottrell on November 20th, 1953 in Angola, Indiana. Together they enjoyed almost 58 years together. Leo enjoyed spending time working on his car and spending time with family and friends. He was a very giving person, always willing to offer a helping hand.
In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Kunkle and Gweneth Daly. Leo is survived by his loving wide of almost 58 years, Lorna (Kotrell) Knaggs; sister, Genevieve Cecil and 5 nieces and 6 nephews.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Isham. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery.
