Maumee, Ohio

We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lee Stiegelmeyer, of Maumee, OH. Lee passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025. She was born 8/17/1929, Mara Lee Throne to Oral J.D. Throne and Lillian M. Neafie. Lee grew up in Toledo graduating from Devilbiss High School and earned an Associates Degree in Hospitality/Hotel Mgmt. from Owens Community College.

Lee enjoyed working for real estate companies in the area and retired from medical records at Toledo Mental Health Center.

Lee had a passion for gardening. She loved sharing her knowledge as a Master Gardener.

Her stunning, all seasons gardens and ponds were awarded and featured in local publications including the Toledo Blade. She was a talented painter, seamstress and active in the Maumee Senior Center. Her creativity, energy, perseverance and love of nature has been passed to future generations.

Lee was preceded in death by parents, husbands Neil Burns and Roy Stiegelmeyer, son Tim Burns, grandson Ryan, siblings Janet Buck and James Cline.

Lee is survived by children Deborah (Rick) Reed of Waterville, Brenda Badger of Phoenix, and Scott (Sherri) Stiegelmeyer of Idaho. Grandchildren, Todd (Tonya) Reed, Jason (Heidi) Reed, Erin (Jason) Wallace, Andrea Kassem, Allison Westfall, Angela (Tom) Medbery and Lauren Burns, great grandchildren Chase (Brittany), Darren (Ashley), Matthew, Austin, Abby, Sofie, Mira, Kamari, Easton, Owen and Emma, great great grandchildren, River, Navy, Crew and Brooks. Favorite brother in law Orlan Buck and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Lynne Pribe for years of constant friendship and sharing the beauty of Mom’s ponds and gardens.

Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2025, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo (419-381-1900) and burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, River Rd. Maumee.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of NW Ohio or donor’s charity of choice.
