Laurie Mae (Thompson) Haase, age 57, of Toledo passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2010. She was born January 31, 1953 to Thomas "Tommy" Thompson and Shirley A. (Gaddis) Knee in Toledo. After graduating from Morrison R. Waite High School, she went to work as a ticket agent for Amtrak. From there she traveled to upstate New York and Jacksonville, Florida. Upon her return to Toledo, she employed her skills as a seamstress and opened her own shop, "Tomi-Lori" in the downtown area where she made outfits for places such as, The Booty House and The Westgate Dinner Theater. She then went back to school at Owens Community College and traded her sewing shears for gardening shears, later earning her degree in Horticulture. Following school, Laurie started her own business called, Garden Options.
She enjoyed spending time and watching Nascar with her husband Jim and their dog, Darby; watching Detroit Tiger's Baseball and tending to her own garden. Laurie's family will remember her as a loving and devoted, wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched.
Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Thompson and brother, Lynn Dale Thompson. She is survived by her husband, Jim Haase; mother, Shirley; daughter, Amber Dawn Peterson of Chicago, Illinois; son, Greg (Beth) Herbster of St. Louis, Missouri; siblings, Lonnie (Karen) Thompson and Tracy (Tim) Nichols; brothers-in-law, Jeff Haase and Greg (Terry) Haase; sister-in-law, Deborah Haase; stepson, Derek Cousino; 5 grandchildren; 3 nephews and 5 nieces.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 where friends are invited to gather with the family from 2-6:00 p.m. at VFW Post # 2510, 617 Second Street, Toledo, Ohio.
