Laurie Ann Becker

April 1, 1967 — August 17, 2023

Laurie Ann "Donahue" Becker passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, after her battle with a lifelong illness. She was 56 years old. She fought long and hard with amazing grace and resilience.

Laurie was born April 1st, 1967, to Alma and Tom Donahue. She graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in 1985 where she played basketball and track. She then went to Owens Community College where she earned an associate degree in early childhood education. She then worked for many years teaching preschool.

Laurie married the love of her life, Martin J. Becker, on February 29, 1992. They went on to have two amazing kids, Christopher and Courtney. Her kids and her family were the most important things in the entire world to Laurie. She loved taking family trips to Cedar point. She also loved spending holidays with her family and always strived to make them extra special for the kids.

Laurie was one of the most compassionate and supportive people you will ever meet. She had a smile that lit up her entire face and the best giggle-especially when she knew she was asking you to do something and knew you couldn't tell her no.

Laurie was the biggest supporter of Maumee soccer. She was the parent team manager for the Maumee Lady Panthers. She loved "her girls" and did her best to make it to every game, even if she wasn't feeling well. She always brought candy for the girls at the end of each game. The last game she went to, the night before she passed, she had Marty pull the car up blocking the bus from leaving so she could make sure every girl got their candy before they left.

Laurie was wonderful at making people feel appreciated. She'd send thoughtful cards and the longest texts that always started with "Hey Friend." She was also incredibly stubborn, and you did not want to get on her bad side. Her fellow soccer parents affectionately called her 'sour patch kid.' But she loved her people fiercely and no matter what the situation, she was always their biggest cheerleader.

Laurie is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Marty Becker; children Christopher and Courtney; her mother, Alma Donahue; brother Tom (Dee) Donahue; sister Cindy (David) Brown; nephews Tyler and Eric Brown; niece Olivia (Ryan) Laberdee and great nephew Grady Laberdee. She is also survived by many wonderful friends and of course, her soccer girls. Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Tom Donahue.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Jamey Ruiz and his staff as well as the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care, and Dr. Lindsey Bostelman for taking such wonderful care of Laurie. They would also like to extend a special thanks to all the friends who supported Laurie in her health journey.
