Laurie Faulkner, 58, passed away in the care of her Family and the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio on November 9, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born in Toledo, OH on July 5, 1949, Laurie was adopted just after birth by loving parents Philip W. and Helen Schaefer who preceded her in death. The Schaefer Family members worshiped at St. Andrews Episcopal Church and Laurie attended Monac Elementary, Jefferson Jr. and Whitmer High schools. Laurie worked briefly at former businesses Hot Dog Haven, Joseph's Supermarket, Paul's Auto Parts and The Opinion Research Dept. of the University of Toledo. When employed at The Pharm in Sylvania, Ohio, Laurie became a Pharmacy Tech before joining the former Drug Corner in West Toledo and then the Rite-Aid Corp. Starting at the Divisional offices in Toledo, she scheduled hours for pharmacists at over 150 stores in Ohio and Southern Michigan. She resumed her Pharmacy Tech role in Rite-Aid stores at Westgate, Swayne Field, and Wernert's Corners before her most recent assignment at the Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio store.
In the second marriage for both, Laurie wed John Faulkner, father of Jennifer Faulkner, on April 24, 1976. Laurie delivered sons John Jr. (Cory Faulkner), Thomas and Robert and her days were consumed with caring for her family. Laurie became a constant presence at the former St. Agnes Parish at committee meetings, sports events and scouting with her sons. She excelled at sewing and loved crafts, cherished time tending her flower gardens and family camping, loved celebrating the holidays and all the parties with family and friends.
Remaining behind with John and children to cherish her memory, Laurie leaves brother Philip D. (Elsa) Schaefer of Penfield, NY, sisters-in-law Linda Nelson and Mary (James Armstead) Faulkner, brothers-in-law James (Kathy), Gerald (Kathy, "Aunt Shorty") Faulkner, all from Toledo, and brother-in-law Jeff (Mary Frances) Faulkner of Danville, KY along with a very large extended family and her beloved dog (16 yrs), Gangster. So her granddaughters will always remember her, Laurie leaves her unconditional love to her "Huggy Bears," Kya, Addison and Macy and she will take to Heaven all the joy and happiness they brought into her life. Life-long and special friends Dianna (James) Leitner, Rose (Ken) Galdys, Mary Jo Besase, Nancy (Jay) Snyder and Cindy (Walter) Aring will sadly miss Laurie's friendship and love. May she rest peacefully and her memory remain in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched.
The Family wants to thank all the staff and caregivers of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their kindness and efforts to comfort Laurie in her final days.
In honor of Laurie's final wishes there will be a Memorial Service at Regina Coeli Church on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 10:00 AM. The address is 530 Regina Pkwy (off Bennett Rd.), Toledo, Ohio, 43612. Following the service the Family will receive guests to celebrate Laurie's life at Kotz Hall, adjacent to the School.
The Family requests that any donations or gifts in Laurie's name be forwarded to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
