Larry S. Gring, age 75, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his daughter's home. He was born on November 25, 1946 to Harold and Fern Gring in Toledo. Larry was a 1964 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, leaving out of the Great Lakes Division, serving his country during the Vietnam War. Larry worked as a Conductor with Conrail Railroad, retiring after 30 years. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 587, lifetime member of VFW Post 2898 and the NRA. Larry loved woodworking and was a master carpenter. He worked with J.B. Kohne for many years building many exhibits at the Toledo Zoo, Maumee Bay, and helped with FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. Larry enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and riding his motorcycle. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Larry's smile, spirit, stubbornness and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Susie Gring; who passed June 25, 2021; and sister, Patricia Bodi. Left to cherish Larry's memory are children, Christopher Gring and Lianne (Shane) Whitaker; granddaughters, Caitlin Gring, Celine Whitaker, and Faith Whitaker; brothers, Daniel (Roberta) Gring and Steven Gring; nieces, Candy (Chuck) Bosworth and Danette (Chris) West; and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Celebration of Life beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
