Larry C. Collins, age 63, of Point Place, passed away Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 in Toledo. He was born September 13th, 1947 to Richard and Tamson "Micky" (Firsdon) Collins in Findlay, Ohio. Larry was a graduate of Findlay High School and went on to serve his country proudly in the Army National Guard. After the service, Larry began his career in the food industry and continued working for more than 40 years. He was a longtime resident of Toledo. Larry was an avid sportsman and a big fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also loved classic cars and never missed an opportunity to visit the Auburn Auto Show. Larry had an appreciation for architecture and design, studying various buildings. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and looked forward to family vacations several times a year, traveling by car throughout the United States. Because Larry loved the water, he always looked forward to boating at any destination with his family. He will be remembered as a selfless man, putting others needs before his own. Larry could often be found spending time caring daily for his sister and volunteering his time in the community. He was strong in character, setting a wonderful example for anyone who had the pleasure to know him. Larry had a love of animals and enjoyed spending time with his devoted canine, "Buddy".
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Collins. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Greg) Rockwell and their children Hannah and Nicholas of St. Augustine, FL; sons, Bart Collins of Toledo, Joe (Kellee) Collins and their children Lauren, Brynn and Reid of Dayton, OH and Jessup Collins of Guam and their mother, Debra Collins of Toledo; sister, Joan Collins of Findlay, OH and many dear and special friends.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Memorial Service will begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Rd. Officiating will be Pastor Jeffrey Crawford.
